Celebrate Independence Day in Marietta

Hello Marietta! If you are new to our area, plan on being in Marietta to celebrate Independence Day. Friday July 4th is the day for our spectacular fireworks show. The display is scheduled to begin at 9:15 pm or when conditions permit.
Leading up to the big show, enjoy family entertainment at the Community Bible Church. Parking by donation (all proceeds go toward the fireworks) starts at 4:00 pm. Bounce houses, barrel train rides, a live band and up to 22 food trucks is the schedule for fun. Get there early, bring your lawn chair or blanket, and have a great family night out.
Additionally this year War Memorial Park will feature several food trucks featuring a new entry: Mumma’s Eats and Treats beginning at 4:00. That means if you live in town, all the fun you need will be within walking distance. Arrange a blanket in your favorite viewing area and enjoy the time with your family.
We feel it is a successful event when the local B&B’s are full, the restaurant and taverns are full, and the town is buzzing all day /weekend.
A little history and review: as far back as the late 1950’s Marietta has had some kind of fireworks display put on by volunteers of the community. It seems the majority of the shows were put on by the Marietta Jaycees in conjunction with a carnival. This started as a weekend event and grew to a Wednesday to Saturday event. When the local Jaycee chapter disbanded, many of the members formed a “Carnival Committee”. That lasted until approximately 2013. The Marietta Pioneer Fire Co. took over for two years, then the show was dormant for two years. In the fall of 2017, some former Jaycee members, former Carnival Committee members and others gathered and chose to attempt to bring back Marietta Fireworks. First thing that needed to be done was achieve 501(c)(3) status. That takes money. So t-shirt sales were offered. With the successful sale of the shirts, it gauged community interest and raised the funds needed to get started. A big thank you to Stacie Betts for her assistance. The result: our first show in 2018 was a huge success. We continue to this day with 100% funding from local businesses, organizations, and individuals. We are a 27 member strong volunteer non-profit organization. No one gets paid, all give of their valuable free time, and all do it out of passion for Marietta and fireworks. Some members are rookies, some have 40 years experience.
Cleanup after the show is an event of itself. The show could not happen with out this planning. Starting with breakfast donated by Kristen’s Katering, approximately forty volunteers from the Marietta Community Church descend on the show field and fulfill our plan: leave the site better than we found it. The Marietta Boat Club finishes the job by mowing the entire area and Republic Services donates a dumpster to dispose of the “huge” amount of debris. Truly a community accomplishment.
