The popular River Towns Plein Air, now in its fifth year, returns with changes in schedule and venue. Marietta Art Alive, the group that organizes this large, yearly undertaking is lengthening the time for the “paint out” to almost the entire month of April. Allowing for unpredictable Spring weather, this time frame will give residents who enjoy watching the process more opportunities to spot the artists working in Marietta, Columbia, Wrightsville and adjacent sites.
Previously held in the Marietta Community House Studio, the final showcase of art will now be staged at MH Art Gallery, 42 W Market Street. This change allows for a longer opportunity – three weekends – for the public to visit, as opposed to the three day time frame previously offered. The new dates are May 3, 4, 10, 11, 17 and 18. In addition, there will be a special ticketed preview Friday, May 2. Visit www.mariettaartalive.com for schedule details.
Organizers are planning even more of a top-quality show than in the past with twenty-five exhibiters chosen from a field of roughly ninety applicants.
Marietta Art Alive is honored that renowned landscape artist, Rob Evans, has agreed to be the prize juror. His work is in galleries and major collections and museums across the country and he is the curator of a growing collection of Susquehanna River art that has traveled to various museums. There will be $5000 in cash prizes sponsored by organizations and local businesses. Marietta Art Alive is grateful for this support that helps the group draw top artists from multiple states and brings hundreds of visitors to the area.
Marietta Art Alive is the arts-in-action all-volunteer team of Rivertownes PA US, a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the art, culture and history of our river towns.
