Project Underway to Add Signs to Historic Marietta Buildings

Rivertownes, with the support of Our Marietta, is
undertaking a project that would see historic markers placed
at select sites all over town. The signs would follow the
model of the ones already installed near the Vesta building.
This project supports both Our Marietta and Rivertowne’s
goal of encouraging heritage tourism and also informing
citizens of Marietta’s history.

Rivertownes is willing to be the sponsoring agent and
would oversee similar signs in Columbia and Wrightsville.
Costs should be relatively low, which makes the project very
feasible. When signs are completed, volunteers to help with
installation will be needed. At present, the plan is to offer
the choice of a wall sign or a pole mounted sign (similar to
the ones at Vesta Furnace). It was suggested that historic
public buildings comprise Phase I of the project.

Any historic property owner with an interest in purchasing
a marker should email David at dshaneman@embarqmail.
com and/or Linda Ross at lindamylinross@gmail.com. At
this point, the purpose of this contact is simply exploratory
and does not commit anyone until more details can be
worked out. It would be desirable, but not mandatory, that
a photo of the property in its early days be featured as well
as some historic facts.
