I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Or, in Marietta’s case, we all scream for Mulberry Thrill. Since the new ice cream shop opened on May 19th at 100 West Market Street, this cute little old-fashioned, familyowned place has stolen the hearts of Marietta citizens, including me and my sister Harper, with its delicious treats and kidfriendly atmosphere. So of course, when we were asked to write a feature article for the Marietta Traveler, we jumped at the chance to interview the people behind the latest trend everyone in our little town is talking about, Abby and Steve Ulrich.
Abby and Steve believe their ice cream shop is a great community spot for all walks of life. They say they have made so many new friends and they love meeting new people (and dogs, too)! Steve says he loves being “the ice cream man” and making people smile. His personal favorite treat is the dark chocolate cookie sandwich with mint chocolate ice cream. Abby’s favorite treat is the Weckerly’s cream and oatmeal cookie sandwich.
When Abby and Steve were asked how they would/do deal with criticism they say that constructive criticism is good and helps them improve. They said the most difficult part of owning an ice cream shop is that there wasn’t a window at the shop at first so they had to do a lot of demolition and renovation. They said the sourcing was easy, though. It’s also a “mom and pop shop” so a lot of the responsibility falls on Abby, Steve, and their children. They said they were looking to expand in future but for now it’s just a thought, but they have so many ideas!
After talking with Abby and Steve, the two of us discovered that they are more than the people that have great ice cream, or the entrepreneurs that took our town by a storm. They are kind, caring people. And that, my fellow Marietta citizens, is another reason you should give Mulberry Thrill a try. Not just for the delicious sweet treats, but for the truly great people that own it. Thanks for reading our article, and be sure to stop by Mulberry Thrill sometime soon!
